Plácido Domingo - tenor

This painting was inspired by the appearance of Plácido Domingo at the 1996 Gala celebration of Maestro James Levine's twenty-five years at the Metropolitan Opera.

Here is a man who is the epitome of opera. He tells stories with his hands, moving with tremendous presence in any space, as his searching gaze takes us out of the auditorium into worlds full of sound and fantasy. That is why I have conjured up a theatrical setting, swirling with dramatic emotion.

Now, in honor of his 60th birthday celebrations at the Met, Plácido Domingo takes center stage in my exhibition of great performers.
